Traffic Light Controller

Many traffic lights are part of a traffic control system and are controlled by computers and per mouse click.

In the case of the pig operated switch being linked to a whole set of traffic lights, the PORCONTROL signal triggers a small program in the traffic light controller, which interrupts the normal light cycle and switches the traffic lights to the red phase for 30 seconds. A mobile traffic light, however, will be linked via the D/A-interface of a PC or Macintosh, which both controls and interrupts the light cycle.

 

Key problems to be solved:

  • Which computer programming language is used, and what do the programs look like for the different scenarios?
  • How is the PORCONTROL program embedded into existing software?
