Communication Server

The communication server functions as gateway between intranet (traffic control system) and the internet. Large intranet systems have special communication servers connected to their network.

The communication server processes the PORCONTROL signal received from the internet, and passes it on to the traffic light controller.

 

The computer controlling the mobile traffic light will be connected by a telecom link to the communication server of a local dial-in internet access provider.

Key problems to be solved:

  • How is the PORCONTROL signal received and passed on to the controller - by a telnet session, or by HTML code and CGI script?
  • Does the server establish the connection only, or does it require a special PORCONTROL program to communicate with the traffic light controller?
