Traffic Light

Traffic lights control the flow of traffic at intersections, pedestrian crosswalks and road construction sites. PORCONTROL has three possible scenarios:
  • The pig operated switch controls the whole set of traffic lights of the intersection. The PORCONTROL signal will set all traffic lights to the red phase, stopping all traffic for 30 seconds.
  • PORCONTROL is linked with a single traffic light, and traffic flow will be interrupted as in a pedestrian crosswalk situation.
  • mobile traffic light is installed, e.g. near the art festival, using an ad hoc internet link. The traffic flow will be interrupted as above.

The first and second scenarios require complex planning and organisational strategies, but offer effective publicity for the client. The third scenario suits smaller festival events, requiring simpler information and telecommunication technology.

Key problems to be solved:

What are the required political, administrative and technical procedures when dealing with the authorities responsible for the traffic control system? How can drivers be made aware of the event?
