Switch Controller

A simple PC or Macintosh computer will continuously monitor the status of a switch, which is installed in a pig pen or a paddock. The link is established via the digital/analog interface (Serial Port). When the switch is pushed, the program generates the PORCONTROL signal, which is sent via telecom link and internet to the traffic control system.

The computer program also records the number of hits, and will filter the number of signals generated by the switch, so that only one PORCONTROL signal per 5 minutes reaches the traffic control system.

Key problems to be solved:

  • Which computer program language is best used to handle the monitoring of the d/a interface and the telematic protocols at the same time?
  • What does the program look like?
