PORCONTROL

PORCONTROL (Pig Operated Remote Control) is a collaborative project which sets out to install the switch (button) of a pedestrian traffic light in a piggery in Australia, and link it via the internet with a set of traffic lights in Europe. During a 24-hour event, which will be run in conjunction with an art festival or symposium, pigs in Australia will effectively stop traffic in Europe.

PORCONTROL explores how a number of IT experts and multimedia enthusiasts can effectively plan and organise a challenging project across the internet. There are many opportunities for collaborations, including web page programming, D/A engineering, marketing & public relations, curatorial, sponsoring, etc. The production is coordinated by PIGVISION, and supported by cyber think tank www.visionen.ch

If you wish to know more about the project and how you can assist the research team ... please contact PIGVISION. Alternatively, you may wish to contact www.visionen.ch and subscribe to their mailing list.

How the project unfolds:

There is no strict time frame so far. The planning process adopts a system-orientated approach, which incorporates the following phases:
  1. Development of an attractive project homepage, which includes animated graphics, sound and other applications. Web visitors should be able to get a comprehensive picture of the approach taken.
  2. Development and implementations of models simulating the link between switch and traffic light.
  3. Development of marketing and public relations strategies.
  4. 24-hour event including pigs and traffic lights.
  5. Publications and acknowledgement.
