Pig Operated Switch

Pigs are curious animals which actively explore their environment. They will easily press a switch with their snout. The number of times a switch is pressed depends on the number of pigs having access to it, their environment and the time of the day: pigs sleep at night! There will be quiet times, when the traffic lights go through their normal cycle, and time periods with increased likelihood of the cycle being interrupted.

A feedback or reward mechanism linked with the switch would enhance the play effect for pigs, and increase the number of PORCONTROL signals.

Key problems to be solved:

  • Design and installation of the switch.
  • Installation of a web camera.
