Solar Circuit 2k2 was held in Tasmania
in early 2002. It was a three and a half week event that brought together
a diverse range of New Media Artists from around the globe. To summarize
the mission statement of Solar 2k2, the aims of the event were threefold...
-- To create a truly translocal media and arts environment by extending the international input of the Polar Circuit community, establishing a link between the far north and the far south. -- To provide time, space and a unique environment for new media artists to workshop, research and collaborate on creative methodologies. -- To create an opportunity for artists to work together over a given period of time to develop new artistic content exploring the relation between new media and the artists response to a geographically remote place - the Tasmanian wilderness. Solar Circuit 2k2 was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Solar/Polar Networks, The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Contemporary Arts Services Tasmania, and the University of Tasmania School of Art. |
