Our current artist in residence is Andrea Morucchio. Andrea is the first artist to be sponsored by the Claudio Alcorso Foundation. The foundation was launched in October 2001 to celebrate the life of Claudio Alcorso, a pre-eminent Australian of Italian descent who made a significant contribution to the cultural, environmental and industrial life of his adopted country. Additional funding for Andrea’s residency has also been has generously provided by the Hobart City Council via its Cultural Grants Program.
Andrea, who lives and works in Venice, Italy, will be artist in residence at the Tasmanian School of Art in Hobart from late December 2002 until mid April 2003. Whilst here Andrea will be working on a number of projects which will take place during the 10 Days on the Island Festival. These include an installation in the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, a mutli-media installation (location to be confirmed), and an exhibition of sculptures at Despard Gallery from March 28 until April 30.
Andrea will be giving a talk about his work on February 28 as part of the Tasmanian School of Art's Art Forum program.
