2 Monib Mahdavi
Monib
Mahdavi is a young graphic designer based in Melbourne . The main axis
of Monib's work is typographic which he builds upon with design principles
and methadologies geared toward effective visual communication as a cultural,
spiritual and business tool. For Art Forum, Monib will be talking about
typography and the role it plays in his work, as well as some more holistic
views about design and it's role in the bigger picture in terms of creativity.

A
Melbourne based video artist with an international reputation, David Noonan
will be talking about his work in general, and recent projects in particular,
and will be showing examples of his work.

16 Jacky Redgate
Through
an intermix of different geometries, specific artworks and literary, scientific
and political formations, Jacky Redgate's work shows the mutability of
aesthetics, critical interpretation, art history and artistic intention.
The work operates on a number of different registers between different
fields: photography, painting and sculpture. And it has, since she began
exhibiting in the early 1980's, moved across technologies and though traditions.

figurative sculptor from South Australia, Tony will be teaching at the
School of Art at Hobart until April whilst Bob Jenyns is away overseas.

6 Kevin Murray
Kevin
Murray is a writer and artistic director of Craft Victoria. His talk will
pose the question: 'Where to the darkroom?' As photography migrates to
the screen, what kinds of art practice will take its place in the darkroom?
Presently, the darkoom is a gathering place foran assortment of arts,
including ceramics, painting, textile artists and photo-atavists. Perhaps
the darkroom has a destiny beyond photography.

20 Adam Page and Eva Herstzch
'The Better Living Programme'
Adam
and Eva are Based in Desden and have wokred as a colloborative team since
1997. They will be in Australia as Artists in Residence at Sydney College
of the Arts. For Art Forum they will present a number of their projects
realised in public spaces. The work is interventionist and draws attention
to the repercussions of mass privatisation and standardisation of public
space in cities.

27 Susan Cohn
Susan Cohn is a Melbourne based craftworker who produces both jewellery
and metalwork for commercial production and exhibition. She is one of
the most important artists of the present time with an established national
and international reputation, and is the only Australian artist to have
a piece produced by the Italian design firm Alessi. Her work is the subject
of a major survey show organised by the National Gallery of Australia
and touring around Australia, including the Plimsoll Gallery at the School
of Art at Hobart.

4 Ole Jorgen Ness
A Norwegian artist, Ole was artist in residence at 200 Gertrude Street
(Melbourne) last year, and is continuing to work in Australia towards
a major project involving the history and mythology of the Tasmanian Tiger
and pursuing that which is extinct. He will be talking about his own practice,
from the establishment of his multiple persona approach, which sees him
separate the artistic drives within himself into nine artistic personalities,
to the establishment of the collaborative Nesstudio.

Natalie is the Scottish artist in residence for 2001 at the School of
Art at Hobart.

18 Hossein Valamanesh
Hossein will present an illustrated slide / lecture about his practice
as a visual artist. Touching on some of the earlier work he will concentrate
on examples of works from the last decade. Some aspects of the talk will
deal with his work in public places and its relation to his studio practice.
The talk aims to throw some light on the work by talking about ideas,
materials and processes that bring the work together.

25 Angela Valamanesh
Graduating from SA School of Art ceramics studios in the late 1970's Angela
practiced as a potter until 1992 when she returned to full-time post graduate
studies in visual art. A year in Glasgow School of Art with support from
a Samstag scholarship served to broaden her practice which currently spans
crafts and visual arts and includes collaborative projects with Hossein.
Angela's presentation will take the form of a slide / talk highlighting
her practice and its development.
