Nowadays, graduates are increasingly finding that to pursue a professional career in the visual arts they must augment their first degree with some form of supplementary education. Those wishing to pursue more vocationally oriented careers in, say, graphic design, production pottery, or teaching may decide to undertake an Honours degree in their specialist area after completing the Bachelor of Fine Arts and/or the Master of Fine Arts and Design. Graduates intending to work independently as visual artists and, perhaps to engage in some teaching at the tertiary level, usually undertake an Honours degree with the idea of going on to take out a Master of Fine Arts (Research) degree or a doctorate (PhD) To obtain a teaching position in an Art School now, it is virtually mandatory to have a higher degree.

To give you some idea of the sorts of careers our graduates have pursued (their names are listed on the left), here is a random selection from recent years.
