First Year Units FSC101 Introduction to Mould-Making 1

For students interested in developing 3-dimensional forms that need to be replicated, or repeated. The unit introduces the possibilities of making simple one-piece and two-piece moulds as a means of creating multiple or built-up forms using various materials. Students are introduced to: methods of developing shapes from clay, plaster, wood or found objects to create models from which to create moulds; plaster turning; methods of setting up models to create simple drop and two-piece moulds; correct mixing procedures of plaster, and safe handing of materials; various materials to experiment with in the moulds including Ð clay, glass, concrete, plaster, and latex.

Third Year Units FSC310 Ceramics 3

Special notes: restricted to students who have successfully completed Ceramics 2 Requires students, in consultation with studio staff, to develop their own projects. Students are expected to maintain a well-kept personal resource sketch book, produce a range of glaze tests and be able to fire both gas and electric kilns. A written examination and glaze test presentation conclude the program. Weekly studio theory sessions cover aspects of health and safety, contemporary and historical ceramic issues. Students select and research a topic related to their own work in order to present a 20-minute slide talk.

50%, Full year, 12 hrs weekly (26 wks), Prerequisites FSC210, or FSC250 (DN), assessment of set projects.
