FSD150 Introduction to Life Drawing This one-semester 'basic' unit is concerned with analytical approaches in life drawing. The unit is geared to the development of visual perception and eye-hand coordination, and of principles and methods of analytical drawing in relation to the human body. FSD153 Media and Methods in Drawing Students explore both the inherent characteristics of various drawing media and attendant drawing methods. The unit aims to stretch the students' conceptions as to the nature of drawing, through analysis of concepts, principles, methods and conventions. From this basis, students are encouraged to experiment with unconventional, as well as conventional, approaches. In particular, the unit also aims to develop the students' appreciation and capacity to relate media and method with meaning within their own work. FSD253/353 The Historical Landscape Is based upon the conception of landscape as a repository and a sign of human history. The unit involves production, in the form of drawings, of images which explore this conception, with some emphasis on the landscape, history and art of colonial Van Diemen's Land ÐTasmania. Excursions are made into landscapes of significance in terms of Aboriginal, settler and convict history. Emphasis is also placed on the historical landscapes of other places, real or imagined, and encourages personal responses to particular historical topics and particular landscapes. This unit complements studies in FSZ251 Ê Natural Environment and Wilderness and FST205 Ê Picturing the Wilderness. FSD255/355 Life Drawing: Personal Project A Various principles and possibilities of life drawing are addressed. The unit is concerned with the development of individual imagery which references the body as key content, ie 'figurative art'. Though continuing to involve drawing the body from life, work in the unit also takes place in outside locations as well as in installation-type setting within the school and life room itself ÊÐand involves portraying setting as much as human figure. The unit includes a survey of the body as it has been conceived and represented in the art and history of various cultures, as well as analyses of the work of contemporary figurative artists. The unit also caters for students whose work in their other studio studies would be complemented by a unit in life drawing.
