FSP110 Painting 1 Students are set a series of broad open-ended projects to allow them to focus on an individual direction. In consultation with staff, students set themselves a range of visual problems to solve, questioning the steps they take in arriving at a solution. Students are expected to: engage with 20th-century art practice; develop their own criticality about art; confront and ask questions about the act of painting itself; start to generate ideas from which their work will evolve; develop these ideas into visual form and consider various solutions; experiment with various mediums and materials which may be relevant or appropriate to their particular enquiry. 25% *full year -4 hrs weekly (26 wks) assess all work attempted during the year including: preliminary notes and sketches; working drawings; completed works. Second Year Units FSP210 Painting 2 At this level students are no longer requiried to complete set group projects. They are encouraged to pursue a theme of their own choosing with regular consultation and input by the lecturers. Students are encouraged to experiment as much as possible in the search for individual solutions; this may lead them into an exploration of materials, media or forms which may not be traditionally associated with painting. Students select individual themes as a starting point for visual enquiry consider a range of concepts and issues associated with these themes; find visual solutions for their concepts; become competent in the use of particular relevant techniques and media; begin to articulate their concerns. 50% *full year -12 hrs weekly (26 wks) * prereq FSP110 * assess all work attempted during the year including: preliminary notes and sketches; working drawings; completed works. Third Year Units FSP310 Painting 3 Students are expected to pursue a theme of their own choosing with a degree of sophistication. What visual form the final submission takes is determined by individual experimentation and research. Students should achieve distinctive visual solutions as a conclusion of individual research; display an awareness of pertinent current visual arts activity; articulate their concerns; complete a body of work which employs an intelligent use of particular techniques and mediums; become acquainted with a variety of post-art school professional career paths. 50% *full year -12 hrs weekly (26 wks) *prereq FSP210, or FSP250 (DN). * assess all work attempted during the year including - preliminary notes, sketches, working drawings as well as a folio of completed works. FSP350 Painting 3A Has the same broad objectives as FSP310, except that students are required to work in the studio for at least one day a week. 25% *full year -6 hrs weekly (26 wks) *prereq FSP250 or FSP210. *assess all work attempted during the year including - preliminary notes, sketches, working drawings as well as a folio of completed works.
