What are the new aesthetic and technical issues
involved in representing the physical experience of aquatic environments
with interactive video installations?
Humans have a complex and difficult relationship
to the aquatic environment. We need water to survive and our bodies
are part water, but on the other hand it is an environment where we
cannot breathe naturally and there is always the possibility of drowning.
The experience of it both restricts and heightens our sensory responses
and operates within its own category of aesthetic criteria. Emerging
interactive sound and video technologies provides new methods to explore
the physical nature of this experience within the context of installation
practice.
